Weather and climate. 

Climate has been defined as the average weather conditions at a specific place over a ie lengthy period of time. More than 30 years while the condition of the atmosphere at any specific time Or a short time is known as weather.. 

Jammu and Kashmir is situated in the sub tropical region and it's climate to a greater extent is influenced by its mountainous nature 

Due to different orographic features and snow clad peaks the climate of jammu and Kashmir resembles to a greater extent with temperature latitudes. 

CLiMATE OF JAMMU REGION.. 

THE climate conditions prevailing over jammu region vary from one part to another.. 

The climate of southern part of the division I, e southern plains and adjacent Shivaliks resembles the climate of Punjab  with hot summer coupled with monsoon rains and cool winters. 

On the other hand, the climate of mountainous tracts and lee ward slopes resembles the climate of kashmir valley.. 

Seasonal winds, I, e the monsoon ( Barsaat) have their impact on the climate of jammu region. 

During the summer season hot dry winds   " loo "  Blow which add to the miseries of the people... 

CLIMATE OF KASHMIR DIVISION.. 

KASHMIR region has a continental type of climate. 

The  himalyan range which covers the valley, has modified it's climate to a great extent. 

Thus the valley possesses a sub trophcal to arctic type of climate, having long winters and short summer.

January is the coldest month in kashmir which is locally known as the period of chillai kallan (40) days of intense cold.. 

Spring season is locally known as " Sonth" 

The climate of kashmir valley can be also be divided into six season of two months each..

Important crops of jammu and kashmir... 

Rice.

Rice is the staple food of kashmiris 

It is a kharif crop and is sown in March April and harvest in autumn. Sufficient water must cover the fields. 

The valley of kashmir in jammu and kashmir is famous as the " Rice bowl" . 

The tehsil of Ranbir singh pora ( R. S pura) in jammu is world famous Basmati rice.. 


Wheat..

Wheat is the staple crop of the people of jammu. 

It is a rabi crop and it's plant requires cool and  some what moist climate in the beginning  and warm and dry weather at harvest time. 

Important wheat PRODUCING the areas are kathua, Rs pura, samba and Reasi. 

Maize.. 

It is important creal crop in jammu and kashmir. It is shown in the may july and harvest in August to November.. 

It is cultivated on karewa lands in the valley of jammu region Rajouri, doda, poonch, and udhampur are leading maize producing areas... 

TOBACCO 

IT is largely grown in the valley of kashmir as the soil is suitable for tobacco.

Oilseeds.  . 

They are grown all over the kashmir provinces but the chief oil seeds Producing areas are Anantnag and srinagar..

Rape seed, mustard, linseed, sesamum, toria, and cotton seed are the main varieties of the oilseeds.... 

PUlSES.. 

They are largely grown on small patches of land and the pulses of kashmir valley are well known for their quality.. 

Rajma is grown in doda, Baderwah Rajouri  and poonch... 

. SAFFRON.. 

SAFFRON ( crocus sativus) possessing innumerable medical and aromatic properties is a significant cash crop of jammu and kashmir.. 

It is shown in pampore in kashmir region and kishtwar and baderwah in jammu region.. 

In pampore about 3000 acres are under its cultivation while very small quantity is produced elsewhere.. 

In locally parlance saffron is known as " Zaffron".. 

SUGAR CANE.. 

IT IS SHOWN IN Akhnoor, kathua, R. S pura region and jammu. 

It does not grow in kashmir and ladakh, as it requires hot climate.. 

TEA

It is grown on the slope of katra and bhatnagar in jammu region

JAWAR and BAJRA. 

It is grown as fodder for animals. 

Main areas of cultivation are kandi samba kathua and Hiranagar in jammu region. 


And last one 

Fruits... 

Apples, pears, cherries, plums, pomegranate, mulberries, peaches, apricots, walnuts and almonds are grown in kashmir valley.. 

Mangoes, guavas, bananas, oranges, and black berries are grown in the plains of jammu region...
