D Buddhism was it's peak during the time and spread to ladakh, tibet and central Asia... Kashmir scholars, monks and artists played an important role in spreading the religion..
In Early 16th century the faith suffered at the hands of Mehrauli. The white hun who got the control of the valley around 530 A. d the valley regained freedom but soon came under the rule of the ujjain empire.. In 600 A. d the karkota dynasty was established which produced one of the most remarkable rulers in Kashmir history, Lalitditya who ruled between 724--760 A. d lalitadiya was extended was his territories upto bengal in the east, konkan in the South, Turkmenistan in the North West and tibet in the North East and consider as most famous rule r.. He was also a wise monarch who practiced religious tolerance and brought prosperity to his people.. Towns, temples, roads, canels were build during his region.. Sun temple at Martand, whose superb site and monumental proportions are interesting blend of the Roman and bengali pala influence... It is also one of the most impressive ancient ruins in Kashmir which is ascribed to glory of king lalitditya......
